Happy weekend! It’s the first one in awhile I haven’t had a dozen items to cross off the to-do list.
I’m so looking forward to leisurely mornings and trips to Bond Park (above) and the American Tobacco Trail.

back!

Married, honeymooned (nice verb, eh?), and officially ending my blogging hiatus.

It’s been an eventful two months, to say the least, and I seriously considered deleting this blog at least 15 times. Not quite sure what’s stopping me, but here goes trial number two of keeping up with a semi-regular writing log.

How sweet is this father-daughter duo? They performed on Ellen recently, too…

Okay, the full version of the Ferris Bueller ad was underwhelming, in my opinion. The Honda CRV brand mentions feel incredibly forced. It almost seems like the ad is making fun of the car because it’s so over the top. Somehow I don’t think that’s what Honda was going for.

But! VW just released their sequel to “The Force” ad from last year. The star this time is a chubby dog getting in shape to chase a Beetle. (Darth Vader also makes an appearance). Love it! The perfect combination of entertainment & relevancy.

The commercials are by far my favorite part of the Super Bowl each year. I think releasing a “preview” of an ad is pretty genius.

Rumors are this one’s for Honda, and that they’re replacing Ferrari scenes from Ferris Bueller with a Honda CRV. They’re already gathering a lot of flack online for subbing out a Ferrari with what most people think is a sub-par vehicle. Can you imagine spending $3.5 million on a 30-second ad and then getting criticized for it? Talk about high stakes! Can’t wait to see the rest of this one.

busy & quiet

Apparently, being insanely busy rules out blogging for me. And exercising. And eating meals that take longer than five minutes to make.

Weekends feel like a huge gulp of fresh air.

Last weekend was wonderful. Two of our closest family friends threw a bridal shower for me, and so many friends and family traveled to celebrate. I have never felt so loved. It was pretty incredible to have everyone gathered in one place at one time.

Michael discovered he’s a huge fan of showers. “You drink mimosas, you eat brunch, and you open some presents. What’s not to love?” he said later that day.

Since we did have friends/family from a lot of different circles, everyone went around the room and described how they knew Michael & I. I forget sometimes how many friends I have that I’ve known for my entire life. When my parents moved to Winston-Salem, they went to a newcomer’s meeting and met three families with kids of similar ages. Michelle, Jill, and I have literally been friends since we were in diapers. And our family has been getting together with the Givner’s and Klinepeter’s every Thanksgiving and Christmas since before I was born. I looked around the room and realized I had grown up with almost everyone in it!

The day really was perfect, and Jill wrote the sweetest blog post with photos of everyone. Here is a picture of me with my mom & the lovely hosts:

If you asked a child what happens when the bookstore closes, I think this might be the kind of answer you’d get …

Compelling.

Photo Series of the Day: Since 1999, photographer Jeff Harris has been snapping one photo of himself each and every day.

However, unlike the standard self-portrait-a-day projects we’ve grown accustomed to seeing, Harris started his with the explicit intention of not doing another me-on-the-couch compilation, but rather making the most out of every photo.

“I didn’t want 365 images of me sitting on the couch each day,” he told Time magazine’s LightBox. “There could have been that tendency, especially during the cold dark winter months to stay inside all the time, but this project inspired me to get out there and seek out interesting things.”

recovery sunday

I’ve been stuck inside for the past few days, battling some sort of awful stomach flu. Michael and I came down with it almost immediately after getting back from New York (thanks, airport germs). The doctor we saw, trying desperately to look on the bright side since she had gone through the same thing a month ago, told us it would be “a bonding experience for the New Year!”

Not exactly what I had in mind.

But thankfully, we are both recovered. I made a long, ambitious list this morning and tackled everything on it. After spending a few days on the couch, that’s a wonderful feeling. I addressed every last one of our wedding invitations, ran errands, caught up on email, and made my mom’s famous Picnic Chicken for dinner (and delicious leftovers for the week). If that sounds like a perfectly boring day, you haven’t seen nothing.
